ITIL Foundation (Version 5)

The ITIL Foundation (Version 5) practice examination is designed to assess candidates' understanding of the core concepts of digital product and service management, including how value is co-created, how products and services are managed across their lifecycle, and how the ITIL Value System brings together governance, guiding principles, management practices, and continual improvement. The examination covers important areas such as Key ITIL Terms and Definitions , The Four Dimensions of Product and Service Management , The ITIL Product and Service Lifecycle , The ITIL Value System , Value Stream Identification, Mapping and Management , ITIL and Artificial Intelligence , and ITIL and Other Frameworks (DevOps and PRINCE2) . Candidates are expected to demonstrate accurate recall of Version 5 terminology — including new and revised concepts such as the Product and Service Lifecycle Model, expanded value considerations (user experience, sustainability), and AI-related terms — alongside sound judgement in applying the guiding principles and recognizing the purpose of key management practices. This is an original practice examination developed for learning, revision, preparation, and self-assessment purposes. It is not an official PeopleCert or AXELOS examination paper unless explicitly authorised by the exam owner, and it does not reproduce official exam questions. Note on currency: ITIL Foundation (Version 5) launched February 12, 2026, replacing ITIL 4 Foundation as the entry point for new candidates. ITIL 4 remains valid and is not retired — PeopleCert has committed to running both in parallel for a minimum of 12 months from launch, with no retirement date yet announced (unofficial estimates cite no earlier than December 31, 2027). Existing ITIL 4 Foundation holders do not need to retake Foundation to progress to higher-level Version 5 modules.
